With the technology we have today, we get 3 to 4 years max of progress on AI until we hit a plateau. From there we'll need quantum computers or other new tech to keep it up to progress. But that, of course, from our perspective of what intelligence is, because machines don't perceive the world and time as we do.

Someday we'll get a great docuseries about all the drama around the creation of powerful AI, a la "The Big Short." It's going to be awesome.

Anyone, who look up to Sam Altman, I suggest you google "the false prophet sam altman" at wheresyoured and read the article. I didn't know anything about Altman, but I didn't believe random "haters". I checked most of the big claims in that article, and everything checks out. He didn't create anything, he got special treatment from Silicon Valley,... His success is due to the fact that he was in the right room at the right time with the right people. I really don't believe anymore that OpenAI has some special advanced models inside the labs, and that they are deliberately slowing down the releases.

Altman entertaining the IPO suggests, to me, that he wants the crazy amounts of funding required for superintelligence in the shortest amount of time. He has to balance the needs of many stakeholders and wants to make everybody happy. But the least vocal of them all, publicly, is safety and superalignment (until they quit). With so many stakeholders, there's a politician dynamic forming around Altman, and "the squeaky wheel gets the grease." There hasn't been major newsworthy safety related problems beyond attempts by some thwarted attempts by state actors. But there have been bandwidth issues, funding issues, uptime issues, energy issues, data issues, and quality issues. How do you convince George W. Bush to become aggressive with airport security prior to 9/11?

You’re hearing that there will be a slowdown. Kurzweil, et al, are pointing to the charts. Certainly, a slowdown seems inevitable at some time, but is it now?
